Ken and his photography...
Special interest: Wildlife & Nature
Traveling the world and sharing my adventures through photography. Most of our photo trips now are into the jungles and wilderness in pursuit of all things wild. Nature and all its creatures holds a special fascination for me, as does the people of remote places. Photography from over seventy countries on seven continents over the past fourteen years since my retirement. Several years ago I moved into my 7th decade of life and am loving every minute of it after having spent 35+ years in Software Systems Engineering.

I have thousands of pictures that remain to be tagged and edited. I started with Adobe Lightroom version 2 and have recently updated to Adobe Lightroom CC for my digital processing. I began digital photography shooting in the .jpg mode but have shot only in the RAW mode for several years now. I have unprocessed photos from trips to the Russian Arctic, South Georgia and Antarctica, India, Mexico, Central America, Peru, Columbia, Brazil, Argentina and other countries waiting for me to find the time to process them. In addition there are many photos on my FLICKR site that are not on my SmugMug site.
In 2013 we were in Columbia for 3 weeks and were in the Amazonia and Pantanal regions of Brazil later in the year. We went up through Central Australia, Adelaide to Alice Springs on the Oodnadata Track prior to getting on a small ship to see Tasmania and the Sub-Antarctic Islands of New Zealand. For 2014 we started with a week in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in pursuit of wolves. Then we went to Africa, our sixth trip. Botswana, Namibia and Republic of Congo where we successfully trekked Lowland Gorillas. In late summer we were on a National Geographic inaugural journey from Iceland to Greenland and on through the North West Passage (we failed to make it due to ICE!). 2015 had us back in India, followed by several weeks in Wild Poland and then a couple of weeks sitting amongst the Kodiak Brown Bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska. And, there is so much yet to be explored but due to recent knee replacement surgery there will be no more trips until the second half of 2016 which will have us going back to Africa for the seventh time plus South Georgia and the Falkland Islands and also a trip in pursuit of spirit bears in British Columbia.
Prior to the digital age I spent years lugging around a Canon AE1 and lenses on my hiking and wilderness backpacking trips. I'm still with Canon but it is all digital now. Because of my interest in Nature and Wildlife, I currently use Canon 7d MkII bodies (2) , one with Canon's 200-400mm L IS Internal 1.4 Extender lens and the other with Canon's s15-85mm IS lens. I also use the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II lens, 100-400mm L IS telephoto lens, s10-22mm, 24-105mm L IS, and 70-300mm DO IS lenses.
The Little Red Haired Girl (LHRG) took the two photos on this page. The top photo was taken near the Sabuk Safari Lodge in Northern Kenya in early 2011 and the bottom picture was taken on an oxbow lake on the Manu River in Manu National Park in Peru in late 2011. LHRG, my wonderful wife and companion, and I are trying to be role models for how to enjoy the retirement years.
